Chapter 120
Vincent came to a sudden halt and fixed Hannah with a cold glare. "Do you really believe that I, as the CEO,wasted around six hours of my day just to mess up our divorce on purpose? You think I've got nothing better to do?"
Hannah didn't hesitate and snapped right back at him, her words sharp, "Well, thank you for clearing your schedule for our much-wanted divorce. Anyway, same plan for tomorrow-nine a.m. at the courthouse."
She wanted the divorce finalized as soon as possible.
Vincent forced a stiff smile. "Can't. I've got a packed schedule tomorrow."
Hannah's lips pressed together. "How about the day after?" "Still can't do it," he replied, not even pausing to think.
Her patience began to fray. "When are you available, then?"
Vincent replied casually, "I'm tied up all week. Today was the only window I had."
A scowl appeared on her face. "Fine. Then just send Derek in your place."
He shot her a look of disbelief. "Have you lost your mind? I was the one who married you, not my assistant. You expect him to sign off on our divorce?"
Hannah shot up one eyebrow and kept her voice cold."Why not? You've had him do everything else-might as well have him handle the divorce, too."
She hadn't forgotten that he'd had Derek pick up her parents with her and deliver gifts to her parents. And Derek always informed her why Vincent wasn't coming home yet again. Frankly, it felt like she had married Derek, not Vincent. Vincent's expression clouded over. "Absolutely not.End of discussion."
She shrugged and replied, "Anyway, I'll keep urging you every single day until we finalize the divorce."
The divorce issue was out in the open now. She wasn't going to drag it out with Vincent any longer.
She started to walk away, but he moved quickly, reaching out and taking hold of her wrist. "We need to talk."
Her voice was flat as she answered, "There's nothing left to talk about."
She figured that everything that needed to be said had been said yesterday.
She tried to pull her hand back, but he only tightened his grip. Without another word, he pulled her toward his car and opened the door, practically shoving her inside before hopping in himself and locking it behind them.Arms folded and eyes cold, she stared at him."Get to the point. I have other things to do."
Vincent struggled to keep his emotions in check."Let's decide how to break our divorce news to my grandmother."
"Alright," Hannah replied, her voice giving nothing away.
Eyes darkened slightly, he remarked, "The divorce agreement never spelled out how we'll split the assets. We need to make it official."
She shook her head. "That won't be necessary.Your mom's ten properties cover more than enough."
His brows knit together, and he wondered if she had been hoping for something else. "Take the Lakeshore Villa as well."
That villa was the first place they called home after the wedding. It had memories tied to it.
But she only shook her head again. "I already sold it and turned it into cash. You've transferred it to me a while back." He tried again. "What about a sports car?" The sports car he ordered Derek to pick out for her had yet to be delivered.
She barely glanced his way. "I'm not interested. That kind of thing doesn't suit me."
There was something about her coldness that got under his skin, though he couldn't put a name to it.He loosened his tie and popped open the top few buttons of his shirt. He let out a sigh. "Tell me, what exactly do you want?"
Hannah met his eyes, a flicker of mockery dancing in hers. "Oh? Is that your attempt at making it up to me?"
Vincent had no reply.
"You really are a fan of post-breakup compensation, huh?"
She offered a cold, dismissive smile. "I don't need it.I don't even want you anymore-why would I care about your things?"Without wasting another second, she unlocked the door and stepped out, never glancing back.
On instinct, Vincent reached out, hoping to catch her hand. He only managed to graze the edge of her red dress. The fabric slipped away, light as air, gone before he could close his hand around it.
Left in the car, he watched the envelope on the back seat through the rearview mirror. The truth was, he'd brought all the required paperwork. Yet, seeing her show up made something inside him freeze. He just couldn't bring himself to go through with the divorce. It could have been tied to his grandmother, or maybe it was that uneasy feeling stirring in his chest, the kind he wasn't ready to examine too closely
