Chapter 381

Since the day Hannah turned down his proposal, Vincent avoided bringing up the topic again. It appeared as though he had completely erased it from his thoughts.

Nevertheless, Hannah frequently caught sight of him scrolling through information connected to venues on his tablet during the evenings. She assumed he was probably making preparations.

Also, she noticed another significant change in Vincent lately -he no longer enforced rigid restrictions on her movements.Right now, she could wander freely through every part of the estate as she pleased.

When she brought up the idea of visiting the hospital for a routine examination, Vincent's initial response was not refusal but an offer to accompany her there. It seemed he was gradually changing.

Soon, the day of the hospital appointment arrived.

The vehicle rolled up to the hospital's VIP entrance lane.

As Vincent prepared to exit the vehicle, Hannah gently pressed her hand on his arm. "Don't you have pressing documents to attend to? Complete them here and then find me later, so your work doesn't suffer any delay."

Vincent cast a look at his wristwatch and then at the encrypted documents awaiting review, his brow knitting slightly. He did need to review an emergency plan for a cross-border merger.

Still, he hesitated as the idea of Hannah going inside the hospital alone didn't sit well with him.

Seeing this, Hannah suggested, "Then how about dispatching Seeing this,Hannah suggested, "Then how about dispatching two bodyguards to accompany me?"

"Alright." He finally nodded, turning to the two bodyguards. He did need to review an emergency plan for a cross-border merger.

"Yes," the two bodyguards replied respectfully with a bow.

Vincent then returned his gaze to Hannah, his expression unwavering. "I will join you once I finish."

"Alright," Hannah answered, a tender smile curving on her lips.

Dedicated personnel guided them through the private VIP passage. The registration and preliminary procedures were swift and discreet.

"Ms. Scott, kindly come with me. The gynecology assessment is located in Room 3," a nurse stated cheerfully as she led the way.

Hannah inclined her head and followed after the nurse into the examination chamber.

The two bodyguards, keeping Vincent's command in mind, attempted to step inside as well.

But the nurse held them back. "Gentlemen, this chamber is a confidential medical area. Male visitors are prohibited. Please remain in the waiting section outside."

Hannah quickly added, "Wait outside. The examination won't take long."

Ultimately, the two bodyguards stationed themselves before the door.

Inside the examination room, Hannah fiddled with her fingers, her nerves fraying. Her period had been overdue by nearly ten full days, something unprecedented for her. She feared thefull days, something unprecedented for her. She feared the possibility of being pregnant. This was the reason for this hospital visit-to obtain certainty.

Darby Gonzalez, a firm-faced physician in her forties, furrowed her brow slightly while examining the laboratory results on her monitor. "Ms. Scott," she said, raising her eyes with calm professionalism, "based on your blood HCG values and ultrasound images, you are not pregnant."

Hannah almost reflexively exhaled in relief- the oppressive burden weighing upon her chest immediately dissolved. Not pregnant! What a blessing!

"However..." Darby adjusted her spectacles, her demeanor shifting into deeper gravity as she examined Hannah's medical records. "You experienced a miscarriage with severe bleeding, correct? And before, that, you had long been consuming contraceptive medication, right?"

Before the divorce, Hannah had been drugged with contraceptives by Danica. Not long after she'd discovered it and avoided any more intake, she had been conceived. Yet,shortly after, she had suffered a miscarriage due to a hemorrhage.

Hannah didn't deny it and nodded. "Yes, both are true."

Darby sighed, her tone carrying a hint of pity. "That explains. The miscarriage inflicted severe damage to your uterus, intensified by the influence of the long-time intake of contraceptives... Your condition is extremely grave. You are facing infertility. The likelihood of natural conception is exceedingly slim."

Darby's words rang clearly in Hannah's ears. Her feelings surged with heavy conflict. Although she had never wished-and even dreaded-the thought of bearing a child with Vincent, she had never foreseen being told she was infertile. Without realizing it, she rested her hand upon her flat abdomen. She might never experience motherhood. Vincent desired a child to shackle her, but in reality, she could not provide one at all. How bitterly ironic.

The immense shock left her momentarily dazed, but soon, deeper doubts surfaced. "Then what has caused my period to be delayed so long?"

Darby studied her expression sympathetically. "Based on your test results, it's primarily due to excessive stress and psychological strain, disrupting your endocrine balance. I can prescribe some medication to stabilize your menstrual rhythm, but it is important you relax, establish steady routines, and steer clear of excessive pressure-"

"I don't think I require the medication," Hannah cut in firmly. She had indeed come for a health assessment, but her true purpose was to obtain a fabricated pregnancy confirmation.

She had thought it through-since Vincent yearned for a child, she would give him exactly what he longed for. Of course, an illusion. She would exploit this "pregnancy" to secure his trust even further.

Darby was startled by the sudden shift in Hannah's demeanor and froze. "Why? Are you taking other medication?"

Leaning closer, Hannah lowered her voice, speaking swiftly and with resolve. "I need your cooperation-produce a pregnancy test report affirming that I am expecting."
