Chapter 542

A mocking voice drifted from behind. "Brixton, it's been a while.Still enjoy using explosives, are we?"

Brixton turned his head slowly. When he saw who it was,he didn't flinch. On the contrary, his smile deepened, dripping with disdain and arrogance.

Brixton straightened his back, as if the gun pointed at his forehead was no more than a toy. "Well, well... I wondered who it could be. Turns out it's my defeated foe. Dewitt, what is it? You didn't get enough of a beating last time and came back for more?"

The man aiming at Brixton was indeed his sworn enemy, Dewitt Marquez-one of the key players in this ambush.

A jagged scar cut across Dewitt's face, twisting cruelly as he sneered, "Even standing at death's door, you never shut that arrogant mouth. I've already crushed your base; your men are either corpses or scattered like frightened birds. Now, tell me -who's worse off? And with that bullet festering in your stomach, where exactly do you think you could run to?"

Hannah held her breath, quietly observing the situation. She quickly realized Dewitt had approached alone; his men must have been locked in the front-line assault or busy hunting down stragglers.

Not far from her lay a corpse, and by its side-an abandoned handgun. Her pulse quickened. This was her moment.

She dropped low, moving silently, and while Brixton and Dewitt squared off, she slipped forward and snatched the weapon, tucking it behind her back.

Dewitt was so busy gloating that he didn't notice Hannah's careful maneuver.

Hannah's palms sweated as she clutched the gun, her heart racing like a drumbeat. Forcing her breath steady, she.weighed the distance, the angle, the chance.

Then, she raised the weapon, aimed straight at Dewitt, and fired without a flicker of hesitation.

Bang! The shot cracked the air. Dewitt's body jolted, blood bursting from his shoulder like a cruel blossom.

Dewitt spun toward Hannah, shock and fury carved into his eyes. "You... You witch!"

Brixton blinked once in surprise and then erupted in wild laughter. "Ha-ha! Now this is a twist! Who would've guessed you knew how to shoot? Shame though-your aim strayed. Not a killing blow."

Brixton's laughter barely echoed before his face hardened.Without pause, he squeezed his own trigger.

Bang! Bang! Bang! A volley of gunfire rang out. Dewitt dropped, this time never to rise again.

"Move!" Brixton barked. He spared not a glance at Dewitt's corpse, yanked the stunned Hannah by the wrist, and dragged her along the escape route.

"Over there! They killed Dewitt!" A furious cry rose in the distance, followed by another storm of bullets.

Lead whistled through the air.

Brixton, quick as lightning, hurled two-then three-explosives over his shoulder.

Boom! Boom! Boom! The chain of blasts thundered, slowing their pursuers.

With Hannah in tow, Brixton kept running. His pace was ruthless, and Hannah-exhausted, lungs burning-stumbled again and again.

"You're lagging," Brixton taunted, though his own face had paled ghostly white from blood loss.

"I... I can't run anymore," Hannah panted, vision swimming."They're after you. Go on without me."

Brixton's grip crushed her wrist like iron. "Really? You want to stop here? Then stay-and see for yourself. Dewitt's men are wolves, far more vicious than I'll ever be. If they catch you, there's only one end-gang-raped to death. Is that what you want? To test your fate?"

His words struck her like a slap. Survival surged back into her veins. She clenched her teeth. "Then we run!"

With every ounce of strength, they tore through the fortress's rear gate and burst onto the shoreline.

Here was the dock where they usually boarded a boat.

"What now? Planning to swim?" Hannah asked, voice trembling as her gaze fell on the black water.

Brixton gave no instant reply. His eyes swept the sea, sharp as a hawk's, searching. Suddenly, his expression lit. "Don't you see?"

Their yacht was approaching.

Hannah followed his gaze but saw nothing on the waves.

Gunfire cracked again behind them, mingled with the shouts of enemies drawing closer.

"Damn it!" Brixton cursed. He glanced once at their pursuers-then something fierce and reckless flashed in his eyes.

Without warning, he shoved Hannah hard into the sea.
