Chapter 150
Felix gestured to the bag, a gentle smile playing on his lips. "I figured no one's eaten yet, so I brought over some food." He glanced at Hannah, his tone softer. "Picked up everything you like. I hope it works for your parents, too."
Margaret beamed, reaching out to squeeze his hand in gratitude, "You always make the best choices. We're happy with anything you bring!"
Hannah made her way over, a flicker of surprise warming her features. Felix's thoughtfulness never failed to catch her off guard. In that moment, she made herself a quiet promise-she would grow Nova Tech into something bigger than ever. A grateful smile found its way to her lips. "Thank you, Felix.Really appreciate it."
The four of them fell easily into conversation, laughter weaving between them, the kind of easycomfort that felt like family.
Nearby, Vincent lingered at the edge of the group, clearly left out. Bitterness prickled, and he couldn't resist tossing a snarky comment Felix's way. "You two don't waste any time, ddo you?"
Vincent couldn't handle it, and his dislike toward Felix deepened. What was this? Meeting the parents already?
His words weren't loud, but the edge in his voice made sure everyone heard.
Hannah's brow creased. "If you're looking for something to do, Mr. Jones, maybe go check in on your mother. She's probably still shaken up from everything."
With that, she nudged her parents toward her car."Don't mind him." Turning to Felix, she asked, "Did you drive tonight?"
"Uh, no. I took a cab," Felix replied, rubbing the back of his neck Without missing a beat, Margaret ushered Felix into the front seat. "That works out. Hannah can drive you home."
Felix didn't object-in fact, he flashed Vincent a smug grin as the car rolled away.
The four drove off together, laughter and conversation trailing behind them.
Left alone, Vincent lingered for a moment, discomfort knotting in his chest. As he finally moved forward,a familiar vehicle caught his attention-Felix's car, parked nearby. So Felix had driven here all along.
"Sneaky bastard," Vincent cursed under his breath.
Upon entering the police station, Vincent quickly pieced together the events that had unfolded. His gaze hardened as it landed on Danica, sitting off to the side.
After settling the fine and signing her release, he led her back to the car in silence.
Danica, noticing the tension radiating from him, sat. quietly.
Vincent finally broke the silence, voice low and cold."What possessed you to go after Hannah's parents?"
A defensive edge crept into Danica's reply. "I wasn't the one at fault. Her mother started it-she completely lost it and attacked me. I was only trying to defend myself after she scratched my face."
She kept her real reasons hidden-confessing them would only make Vincent mad at her.
He wasn't fooled. He knew his mother all too well. No doubt she'd provoked Margaret first. "My marriage to Hannah is over. The Scotts are no longer part of our lives. Don't mess with them anymore," he warned, his tone unmistakably serious.
Danica offered a meek, "Alright," lowering her gaze, but behind her quiet answer, her mind was already spinning with schemes.
Scheming anew, Danica fumed inside. Watching half the Jones fortune handed over to Hannah stungmast worse than any injury.
As soon as they returned to the Jones family estate,Brinley hurried over, her eyes wide. "Mrs. Jones, what happened to your face? Are you alright?"
Soaking up Brinley's fussing, Danica slipped her arm around Brinley. "Don't worry, sweetheart. The doctor patched me right up."
Meanwhile, Vincent noticed his grandmother shuffling down the hall, cane tapping the floor.A glance at his watch told him it was well past ten. Why wasn't she in bed?
Sharon cut in, voice leaving no room for argument,"Brinley, help Danica get settled. I need to speak with Vincent alone."
Danica and Brinley nodded in sync and took off without a second thought.
Sharon reached for Vincent. He stepped forward, ready to support her.
Then, out of nowhere, she smacked his hand away like it burned.
A look of bewilderment flashed across Vincent's face."Grandma, what was that for?"
Disappointment sharpened Sharon's words. "Didn't I tell you to fake sickness, to wait for Hannah to come and take care of you that day? And now I came home to find out you two are already divorced?"
Brinley had wasted no time filling Sharon in on the court ruling as soon as she returned.
Determined to get answers, Sharon had stayed up late just for this confrontation.
Cane in hand, Sharon brandished it threateningly, swinging for Vincent as he ducked and weaved to avoid her blows.
Eventually, he managed to grab her wrist, stopping the next swing. "Grandma, listen-Hannah didn't even come to see me that day!"
A flicker of surprise crossed Sharon's face. "She didn't? But she promised me." "Maybe what she meant was sending Brinley in her place," Vincent replied, holding her gaze. "Hannah is determined to divorce me. Nothing could've changed her mind. That plan of yours didn't have a chance."
Sharon seized the moment to jab him with the tip of her cane. "You ungrateful boy-everything I've done has been for your own good. Do you think I want to be involved in-your messes? If I didn't worry you'd grow old and lonely, I'd leave you to your own devices."
A wry smile crossed Vincent's lips."You really should let me sort out my own problems, Grandma. You're seventy now-don't go wearing yourself out for my sake."
Sharon shot him a pointed glare. "Seventy doesn't mean senile. My wvits are just as sharp as ever."
As her eyes narrowed, she seemed to remember something. "Now that I've got you here, let's settle this. Do you actualy like Brinley or not? Out with it."
