Chapter 407
Hannah halted briefly, her forehead creasing in tension. What on earth was that supposed to convey? How ridiculous! She had no wish to clash with Vincent, but the blaze in her chest forced the retort out. "Perhaps you should consult a doctor instead of spouting nonsense here."
Vincent stared, briefly thrown off by her bluntness, before his fury ignited with greater force. He advanced closer, his tall frame casting a shadow over her, his tone deep and laced with menace."You bring another man to a place where I engage in business talk? What is this-your latest stunt at pulling a chance encounter? Your petty tricks never cease to amuse me."
"Pulling a chance encounter?" Hannah reacted as though she'd heard the most ridiculous jest. A chilly curve touched her lips, her eyes sharp with derision."You really think too highly of yourself.I simply dined with a companion here and happened to run into you. What makes you believe you're someone I'd pursue?"
Vincent's lips curled, his look hardening. "Is that so?Haven't you pursued me relentlessly?"
The air between them pulsed with unbearable charge.
Adrian, stuck between them, was drenched in sweat.Anyone could tell their past was complcated, and the animosity surrounding them was thick enough to suffocate. He quickly cut in, "Uh... I just remembered something pressing at the office. I'l be leaving-you two continue."
And with that, he nearly sprinted away, terrified of being dragged into their clash.
Watching Adrian's hasty flight, Vincent's grin widened. "What's the matter? Did I frighten away your bankroll?"
Hannah's stare turned glacial, her laugh sharp as shards. "My bankroll? How do you know I'm not the one providing for him?"
For once, Vincent's tongue failed him. What gave her the audacity to claim that? "So many antics," he muttered, suppressing the strange ache in his chest, his voice freezing. "In the end, aren't you just after money?"
Hannah said nothing and only fixed him with a piercing glare.
That expression displeased Vincent, fueling his rage until it boiled over. Abruptly, he seized her slender wrist."Come with me!"
Before she could protest, he yanked her down the hallway toward a secluded chamber.
"Release me!" Hannah fought desperately, pain lancing through her wrist under his crushing hold.
But Vincent's grip remained unbreakable. With a violent crash, he forced the door open.
Inside, a circle of men were drinking. They froze, startled by Vincent barging in with a woman dragged beside him.
"Vincent? Weren't you leaving? Why'd you return?"Bobby's eyes shifted to Hannah, widening."Whoa-bringing your ex-wife? What's this? You two reconciling?"
"She means nothing to me!" Vincent declared coldly, shoving Hannah forward.
Hannah stumbled but managed to regain her balance.
Vincent's glance swept the chamber with cruel derision before settling back on Hannah. "Aren't you full of all those tricks of yours? Here's an entire room of men. They're all wealthy-choose as you like.Enjoy yourself!" His voice climbed, thick with venom."Just stay the hell away from me!"
The room went dead silent. Every look fastened onto Hannah-some curious, some disdainful, others hungry for spectacle. A suffocating surge of shame crashed over Hannah, her frame faintly shaking with wrath. Yet, she shed no tears, raised no screams, showed no collapse.
Step by step, she moved to the marble table in the center of the chamber. It was covered with bottles and fruit trays.
She lifted a glass of amber whiskey, her motions steady and precise.
Every glance followed her, including Vincent's. He watched, certain she was about to yield-ready to fit the script he'd imagined. A sneer pulled at his mouth.
But in the next second, Hannah snapped her wrist. The liquor curved through the air and splattered squarely across Vincent's handsome face. The chilling liquid streamed down his jaw, seeping into the collar of his costly attire.
The moment hung suspended. The chamber froze in absolute quiet. No one could trust what they'd just seen. Vincent-doused in the face, in front of everyone? Hannah stood unwavering, her tone unyielding steel."You're right-I do excel at playing tricks. Especially with men like you, swollen with vanity and utterly repulsive." She paused, her stare fixed on him."Vincent, after a year apart, you've only grown even more insufferable."
