Chapter 206
The rooftop of Dorbarrow Hospital pulsed with activity. The helicopter descended, and Vincent passed Hannah into the care of the medical staff.
Vincent trailed them directly to the ICU. A nurse gently advised him that the procedure would take hours and recommended he address his own injuries, yet Vincent declined with a silent shake. Right then, his focus was singular-he needed confirmation from the doctor that Hannah would survive.
Hannah's parents wept nonstop on their way to the hospital once they heard their daughter was still alive. They barged inside, only to learn she'd been admitted to the ICU, and Vincent was stationed outside by himself.
Margaret, swept up in sorrow, threw a punch at Vincent, sobbing, "What happened? Why is Hannah in the ICU? Didn't I warn you to keep away from her? Why is she hurt again because of you? I can't imagine living without her."
Margaret broke down entirely, and Raymond tried in vain to settle her distress. He refused to meet Vincent's eyes, waving him off immediately. "Leave now-we don't want you here."
Vincent bowed, taking in their grief and fury. "I'm sorry. I failed to protect her."
Margaret's tears and fury showed no signs of stopping. Vincent, barely standing on his bleeding leg, propped himself up against the wall, his posture unstable.
Danica and Erica arrived in a rush.
After learning from the bodyguards that Vincent had been shot, Erica had quickly informed Danica. They hadn't anticipated witnessing such a scene upon their arrival.
Danica, still recalling Vincent's earlier warning, was originally reluctant to interfere. Yet, witnessing the aggression toward Vincent, she stepped in, shoving Margaret aside. Her rage ignited, ignoring all earlier warnings. "Your loss is tragic, but my son is not to blame for it. Can't you see he's wounded? It's fortunate he's no longer your son-in-law."
Her words rendered Margaret and Raymond speechless with rage
"Shut up," Vincent muttered, pale and breathless. "Hannah was injured trying to protect me. Could you calm down and stop causing trouble for her parents?"
After that, Vincent doubled over, coughing intensely.
Danica stood frozen. She made to pat his back and comfort him, but Vincent sidestepped, avoiding her touch.
Danica awkwardly retracted her hand. "Still, unleashing all this rage on him wasn't right," she muttered with clenched teeth.
Margaret and Raymond exchanged a glance, finally understanding the reason behind Hannah's injury, their reactions now conflicted.
Erica, who had kept quiet until then, stepped closer to Vincent. "Vincent, you need to see the doctor. You can't delay treating your leg injury,"she advised.
As if to explain her earlier actions, Danica added, "Yes, we came the moment we heard you were hurt. We mean well, truly."
Vincent didn't bulge, his gaze anchored toward the ICU.
Seeing that he wouldn't move, Erica and Danica chose to stay by his side.
Two agonizing hours passed before Hannah was finallywheeled out by the doctor.
Vincent darted over and asked, "How is she?"
"She's stable now. Once she wakes up, she'll just need time to regain strength," the doctor answered, allowing them all to breathe a sigh of relief.
Only Erica clenched her fists in silence.
As Hannah was being taken to the recovery area, Vincent tried to follow, but Raymond blocked his path."I don't want you anywhere near my daughter."
Vincent stopped in his tracks.
Unable to stay silent, Danica muttered, "The Scott family could at least show some gratitude. We've been waiting by the ICU for so long after all."
Vincent shot her a frigid glare. "You never know when to shut up, don't you?"
Without another word, he walked away, Erica following in silence.
Vincent refused anesthesia despite the agony during, the bullet extraction. The injury was severe, and both Erica and Danica grimaced during the procedure, but Vincent endured with only suppressed groans.
Once the treatment concluded, Vincent fell asleep from exhaustion, only waking up the next morning. He made straight for Hannah's room, desperate to know if she had awakened.
Upon entering,he found Hannah sitting upright. Relieved, he was about to greet her when she asked, "Are you the nurse? Could you turn on the light?"
Vincent stiffened. The space was clearly illuminated, and sunlight streamed outside... He inched toward Hannah, waving a hand before her eyes. She didn't react in the slightest. Hannah couldn't see anymore?
