Chapter 640

Sharon quietly observed the subtle exchanges between Vincent and Hannah. Though Vincent's words carried a sting, his eyes told another story-one of genuine concern. A faint, knowing smile curved her lips. Even with his memories lost, it seemed his care for Hannah was carved deep into his bones, something no amnesia could erase.

Taking advantage of the moment, Hannah turned toward Sharon with a playful complaint, her tone touched with a soft, endearing whine. "Sharon, look at Vincent! I'm hurt, and he still talks to me like that."

Sharon chuckled, giving Hannah's uninjured hand a gentle pat. "All right, all right, Anna. You know how Vincent is-his words might be sharp, but his heart's probably bleeding for you. Give him some grace."

Sharon rubbed her temples, the fatigue of the long day catching up with her. "Oh dear, this whole ordeal has truly worn me out. Vincent, I'll leave Anna to you.Make sure she gets to the hospital and has her bruises properly treated. I'll head home for some rest."

Vincent didn't argue this time. His tone was steady."Okay." He turned to Derek and instructed, "Derek, please take my grandma home and make sure she rests."

"Yes, Mr. Jones! Mrs. Jones, this way, please," Derek replied promptly, supporting Sharon as they exited.

And then, just Vincent and Hannah remained.

Without wasting a moment, Vincent escorted Hannah to the hospital.

The drive was swift.

Soon, the doctor began tending to the bruises on her arm.

When the ointment touched her swollen skin, a sharp, needle-like pain shot through her. Her brows knit together, tiny beads of sweat dotting her forehead.

Almost on instinct, she reached out and clutched Vincent's wrist.

The warmth of her touch startled him. A strange sensation rippled through his chest. He should have pulled away-but didn't. He couldn'tsay why.

When the doctor pressed harder and Hannah let out a small cry of pain, Vincent's expression dárkened. His voice turned cold as frost as he said to the doctor, "Couldn't you be gentler?"

Startled by the sudden tension, the doctor quickly softened his touch and explained nervously, "Mr.Jones, the bruising here needs to be dispersed so the blood can circulate properly. Some pain during the process is... inevitable."

Vincent's frown deepened further.

Trying to catch her breath, Hannah forced a weak smile at the doctor. "It's all right. Do what you need to.I can handle it,"

She didn't want to appear too delicate.

By the time the treatment ended, her strength was spent. She slumped back in the chair, forehead slick with cold sweat.

Soon after, she was admitted into a VIP room-spacious, quiet, and almost as refined as a hotel suite.

Looking around, Hannah managed a faint laugh."Vincent, it's just a minor injury on my arm. Did you really need to get me a private room? Isn't this too much?"

Vincent met her gaze, his voice firmn but calm. "At a time like this, you still have the mind to worry about that?"

Hannah sighed softly, trying to lighten the air. "It's because it hurts so much that I have to distract myself somehow."

Vincent studied her face-her stubborn attempt to appear fine-and remained silent for a long moment before asking suddenly, "Are you afraid of pain?"

The question caught her off guard. Her eyes lit up with a flicker of hope. "Wait... Did you remember something?"

Vincent shook his head. "The doctor mentioned it earlier." Earlier, when he collected her prescription, the doctor had explained that Hannah might have a heightened sensitivity to pain-that her body reacted more strongly than most-and he should keep that in mind.

So, he hadn't reclaimed any memories after all.Swallowing her disappointment, Hannah managed a playful smile. "Yeah, and it's unbearable."

Vincent's eyes lingered on her face, his Adam's apple moving slightly. Then, in an awkward tone, he suggested, "Try closing your eyes for some rest.Once you're asleep, you won't feel the pain."

"I can't sleep," Hannah murmured, shaking her head. Then, as if a thought struck her, she turned toward him, her eyes glimmering with mischief. "But... I do know another way to ease the pain."

"What way?" he asked without thinking.

Hannah leaned in a little closer, her tone soft and teasing. "How about a kiss?" Her lips curved into a playful smile. "Just one kiss, and it won't hurt anymore."

Vincent froze. Was she being serious-or just trying to charm him? In an instant, his ears turned crimson.Like someone scorched by sudden heat, he turned his face away, his voice slightly fluistered. "Don't be ridiculous."

A voice inside him warned him not to be swayed or lose his composure. This wasn't like him.

Seeing his reaction, Hannah quickly dropped her teasing act and pretended to be nonchalant. With her uninjured hand, she reached for her phone on the bedside table. "If you won't, that's fine. I'll find someone else to comfort me. After all, there are plenty of fish in the sea."
