Chapter 226

The vehicle hurtled down the road, with Vincent unable to reach anyone at the Jones estate despite his frantic calls.

Thirty minutes afterward, Vincent eventually reached the estate.

He rushed indoors, only to discover his grandmother lounging peacefully on the sofa. With a scowl, he turned toward Erica standing nearby-they had plotted together to fool himn into rushing back.

Erica averted her eyes and softly said, "I'm sorry,Vincent. I did it for your own good."

Her plan to force Vincent into giving up the idea of donating his retina to Hannah with the board session had ended in defeat, leaving her frustrated. Therefore, she'd approached Sharon and revealed everything to her. She figured that the board held no authority over him, yet surely his grandmother, being closest to him, could sway him.

Sharon gazed sternly at Vincent. "Are you seriously going to give your retina to Hannah?"

"I am," Vincent answered, pausing several feet from Sharon.

Once Sharon heard him confirm, her chest swelled with rage, and she rose, her cane striking loudly against the floor. "You reckless boy, are you throwing away the Jones Group? Do you understand how many generations have poured their heart and soul into the company? You..."

Momentarily overwhelmed by her fury, Sharon staggered, prompting Erica to help her ease back down.

Vincent swiftly went to Sharon's side, gently patting her back to help her steady herself.

Placing her palm against her head, Sharon spoke sincerely. "You mustn't act without thinking. The Jones Group cannot collapse, nor can you lose your sight."

Vincent, with deliberate wording, took her hand and responded, "Grandma, I'll ensure everything is handled. Neither I nor the company will fall apart.Believe in me."

Sharon pulled her hand away. "I don't believe you. You'll lose your sight, and once the board discovers your blindness, you'll be stripped of power, and the company will inevitably fall into outsiders' hands."

Vincent's expression was unwavering. "They won't find out." Even if they did, he had nothing to fear. It would merely bring more trouble, nothing he couldn't control.

Sharon's eyes sharpened. "You think your plan of relocating overseas is flawless? Many eyes are fixed on the Jones Group and you, plotting the company's downfall. You might manage to fool others for several months, but over time, they'll surely suspect something. The exposure of your blindness is just a matter of time."

Sharon's anger mounted, tears shimmering in her stare. The Jones Group had previously encountered grave peril, and it was Vincent, at age sixteen, who'd single-handedly rescued it and expanded it into an international powerhouse. The journey was far from smooth.

Vincent's eyes held an unreadable depth, their chill as vast as a bottomless pit. "That works perfectly. While I'm recovering, I'll eradicate the deep-rooted rot within the Jones Group."

"What?" Sharon faltered briefly, stunned by Vincent's words.

Erica was just as taken aback upon hearing this. She suddenly grasped what Vincent had meant by his strategy. She remembered the "flaws" in the board members Vincent had identified earlier that day, realizing his strategy had already been underway.

"The Jones Group has experienced many triumphs, but corruption has infiltrated it. I've wanted to cleanse it for a long time. This overseas trip is my perfect chance." Vincent's stare was piercing, a faint, sly grin on his face, radiating dominance over every detail. His blueprint had long been in place, and this situation had only hastened its execution.

"Even so, you shouldn't be so impulsive. We can find another retina match for Hannah. Anyway, the head of the Jones Group cannot be blind," Sharon said gravely.

Vincent fell silent for a while and then gently said,"Grandma, this is something I owe her." Regardless of the past or present, he felt he was indebted to Hannah.

Sharon grasped Vincent's underlying meaning, her brow tightening. "Even if you feel indebted to her, this is too much. You can't act on emotion."

Erica had kept silent until now, but hearing this, she finally couldn't suppress herself. With a frown, she voiced her thoughts, "Vincent, Sharon's right.Besides, you've already divorced Hannah. There's nothing left to repay."

If it was just about repaying a debt of gratitude, financial compensation would be enough. But she wisely held that thought back.

Vincent simply gave her a frosty look without uttering a single word.

Erica knew that stare-it meant he disliked her interference. Still, she felt the urge to speak up.Like Sharon, she couldn't accept the idea of Vincent losing his sight.

Sharon remarked, "The Jones Group rests on your shoulder. You carry way heavier responsibility than Hannah." Her logic was simple-Hannah was just an ordinary person, unlike him.

"Grandma, that's not true," Vincent replied, a faint bitterness curling his lips. "Hannah is in charge of two companies. You undervalue her."

Just as he once did, his grandmother had underestimated Hannah. He had witnessed Hannah's brilliance onstage, and he couldn't let her drift into darkness through blindness. He would never allow that to happen.
