Chapter 140

Hannah looked at Sharon, her tone calm but weighed down. "Sharon, it's over between Vincent and me."

Surprise flickered across Sharon's face as she tried to process the news. Nothing had prepared her for this."Did you two argue that badly? What on earth happened?"

Quick to respond, Hannah shook her head. "No, it wasn't an argument."

Without warning, Vincent sprang up from the couch and reached for Hannah's arm. "Let's talk about this at home."

Sharon's expression grew severe as she spoke, her words crisp. "What are the two of you keeping from me?"

Trying to avoid the real answer, Vincent murmured, "It's just a disagreement." His grip on Hannah's hand tightened as if that could change anything.

Hannah pulled her arm away, every word slow and firm."|t′Snot just a fight. Vincent and I... WVe're already divorced."

Vincent's face darkened, his voice edged with frustration and pain."SCyou don't care about my grandma's feelings at all? That's heartless, Hannah."

Hannah answered with resolve, stepped over to comfort Sharon, and gently rubbed her back to help her breathe easier, "What's heartless is hiding the truth from her."

A few moments passed before Sharon found her composure again. Deep down, she struggled to believe that after just one birthday celebration, the granddaughter-in-law she loved so much was leavig her grandson.Dreams of bouncing great-grandchildren on her knee now seemed to slip further away.

A long sigh escaped Sharon as she gripped Hannah's hand. "When did all this happen?"

Hannah chose her words carefully. "It was just a few days ago." Vincent interjected, his voice sharp and defensive, "The paperwork isn't signed yet."

A pointed glance from Hannah followed. "Those papers will be finished soon enough."

"Hannah, are you sure you're not just mad at him?" Sharon still remembered how much Hannah once adored Vincent.

"Grandma, I've never been more certain. He just isn't the right person for me,"Hannah said, her voice steady and her eyes unreadable.

Sitting across from Hannah, Vincent could not accept her verdict. "Tell me, how exactly are we such a bad match? If we were never meant to be, how did we make it through eight years together?"

A heavy sigh escaped Hannah as she rolled her eyes. "We made it that long because I kept making all the compromises. I'm finished with that. Now this is over."

Vincent retorted sharply, "Marriage goes both ways. Are you telling me I never gave anything up for you?Can you name a single piece of jewelry you wanted that I didn't buy? I missed an important international conference to celebrate your birthday. You didn't like my female assistant? I replaced her with a man, didn't l?"

Hannah didn't so much as flinch. "So what? Are you really going to act like you're the only one who suffered? Those gifts were delivered by your assistant, not by you. Sure, you skipped that meeting, but you just worked from home instead. And about the assistant, you made your feelings clear. You can hire any woman you want now. It makes no difference to me."

Vincent's words caught in his throat. The tightness in his chest only grew worse as Hannah's cool tone pushed him further away.

Sharon glanced from Vincent to Hannah, picking up on every ounce of tension that filled the room. Trouble in their marriage had always been a possibility, but she hadn't imagined things would unravel so quickly.

Noticing the certainty in Hannah's face, Sharon decided not to argue. "If you've really thought this through, honey,I'll support you."

Hearing those words, Hannah felt the pressure in her chest begin to ease. Vincent, on the other hand, refused to let the matter rest. "She definitely thought it through. She started planning to leave me a whole month ago."

Sharon didn't hold back. "Vincent, you have no one to blame but yourself."

Nothing seemed to shake Hannah.

The shadows on Vincent's face grew even darker.

Sharon kept watching Hannah, her gaze filled with quiet sorrow. Leaning forward, she held Hannah's hands tightly. "Oh, Hannah, I truly hate saying goodbye to you."

From the very first moment Vincent had brought Hannah home, Sharon had been fond of Hannah.

There was something about Hannah's cheerful grin and the way she chatted with an elderly lady like Sharon that made it impossible not to love her. Since joining the Jones family, Hannah had always found moments to visit Sharon whenever shecould. Thus, to Sharon, Hannah was truly one of a kind.

It was clear to Sharon that Vincent had failed to treat Hannah as she deserved. Losing Hannah was a great loss for the Jones family.

Tears sparkled in Hannah's eyes. "I'm only leaving Vincent. I'll still come to visit you."

Wlith a gentle smile, Sharon reached out and tapped Hannah on the nose. "You mean it?"

"Absolutely," Hannah said, nodding with all sincerity.

All along, Hannah had hoped for a peaceful separation from Vincent. But he forced her hand by dragging out the divorce, leaving her baffled by his actions. Now, as his soon-to-be ex-wife, she couldn't care less about him.

Sharon's eyes softened as she looked at Hannah. "I'll hold you to that. Don't forget to come see me when you can."

A faint smile appeared on Hannah's lips. "You can count on it."

Vincent watched the conversation between them, his brow creased with frustration. No matter what hewanted to say, there was never a break in their back-and-forth.

The sudden sound of knocking broke through the moment, drawing their attention.

Hannah's smile faded instantly at the sight of the newcomer.
