Chapter 225
The moment Vincent's words settled in the air, Felix lunged ahead without a second thought, stepping in front of Hannah without hesitation. "There's no way Hannah is coming back to you. She's already had enough," he said, steady and defiant.
Vincent didn't even bolink. "I'm talking to Hannah. Not you," he retorted, his tone clipped and impatient.
"You..." Felix started, but nothing else came out.
Vincent's gaze was intensely locked on Hannah. His voice carried a hint of barely concealed anger.
Hannah rose from the couch and managed a soft answer. "I'm not going back with you." She thought of how long she'd been away from home and knew it was time to return.
A wave of relief washed over Felix. A genuine grin spread across her face. "Did y/ou hear that, Mr.Jones? She doesn't want to leave with you," he said, delight coloring his words.
Sensing the moment, Rena chimed in, determined to wrap things up, "It's best if you leave now, Mr. Jones.Hannah needs her rest," she said, gesturing toward the door.
Despite Rena's prompt, Vincent didn't budge. He fixed his stare on Hannah and pressed on. "Is this really what you want?"
Without missing a beat, Hannah nodded."Yes.I've made up my mind."
A storm of emotion churned in Vincent's eyes, dark and unfathomable. He looked frustrated as he took a purposeful step in Hannah's direction.
Rena's heart pounded with worry. Was Vincent about to take Hannah away by force? But Hannah had clearly said she didn't want to go!
Just as Rena prepared to intervene, Felix moved first,
planting himself squarely in Vincent's path when Vincent was still several feet from Hannah. Felix frowned. "What are you trying to do?"
Vincent merely cast a cold glance at him and then swept past him, heading straight for Hannah.
Before Hannah could process what was happening,Vincent caught her hand in his.
Hannah struggled slightly and calmly asked him,"Are you planning to drag me back against my will?"
Vincent's frown grew sharper. Instead of answering,he silently pressed the cane into her hand.
All at once, the anxiety that had been gnawing at Hannah eased as her fingers closed around the cane. She now realized his approach was meant to pass her the cane. Since losing her sight, the cane had become her anchor, her comfort.
"Could you try to see me in a better light, just once?"Vincent observed her expression, responding to her earlier accusation of him trying to force her back. Yet, Hannah, caught up in the quiet comfort of having the cane back, barely registered Vincent's words. She smiled and asked, "What did you just say?"
Her unguarded smile flickered, lighting up her whole face for an instant. Vincent's gaze faltered-his pupils darkened and his breath caught, but the mask of cold detachment settled over him again before he could let himself feel anything more. "It's nothing."
With heartfelt sincerity, Hannah thanked him while her hand tightened around the cane. His simple gesture had provided exactly what she needed most in that moment.
Vincent raised an eyebrow and shifted the conversation. "It's alright if you've decided not to return." He had already planned to let her go. Holding onto her seemed pointless. "Tell me where you'll be staying. I'll make sure the caregivers and doctors are sent over to help you."
A quiet sigh of relief passed between Rena and Felix as they realized Vincent wouldn't forcefully take Hannah back.
Finding his suggestion too much, Hannah quickly shook her head. "Thanks, but there's really no need.My place is tiny, and I can't fit that many people inside."
Vincent's lips parted slightly. "You don't need to concern yourself. I'll make the arrangements." For him, solutions came easily. If Hannah settled somewhere, he would simply buy a new place nearby.
An awkward silence fell as Hannah held back from arguing further. She understood that Vincent never changed his mind once he made a choice, but she disliked the notion of troubling him.
Observing her discomfort, Felix decided to step in and help. "Mr. Jones, no need to concern yourself about Hannah. Hannah's in good hands with me."
His tone might sound casual, but his words held an underlying meaning. Vincent paid Felix no mind, his attention firmly on Hannah. After a glance at his watch, he spoke quietly. "Don't overdo it with your eyes. Try to get some rest now."
Before leaving, he added, "You don't need to rush into making a decision. Just let me know once you've made up your mind."
Having said his piece, Vincent turned and left, leaving the three of them in the room, momentarily still.
Once inside his car, Vincent hesitated, unsure of his next destination. Only when the driver prompted him did he finally say, "Take me to the office."
Not long after the car started moving, a message from Erica popped up on his phone. "Vincent, you need to come home now. Sharon's condition is worsening!"
Vincent immediately called her, instructing the driver at the same time, "Turn around and head back to the Jones estate!"
