Chapter 431
Vincent naturally caught the inquiry. His eyes were fixed on Hannah, waiting for her reply with expectation.
Hannah, wearing a blank face, corrected the producer firmly. "Not husband. He is my ex-husband."
She paused slightly before continuing, "He cheated."
It was obvious she was addressing the producer's question about their separation.
"What?" The producer's expression widened in disbelief and sympathy. "With such a wonderful wife, he strayed? Has this man lost his senses..."
Vincent's commanding, resonant tone broke through the producer's statement."I did not!"
He advanced, confronting Hannah. "I've never touched any other woman except you.Never once!"
Those nearby whispered, "Is this a public clarification?"
In an instant, louder gasps and chatter swept through the onlookers. Every gaze shifted back and forth between Vincent and Hannah.
Hannah gave Vincent no reply, ignoring the probing stares around her. Instead, she fixed her attention on the van pulling closer. "Let's go. The van is here."
Without hesitation, she turned and strode toward the van without a backward glance.
Vincent's eyes followed Hannah's leaving silhouette, his look unreadable. He moved quickly, pulled the door open, and sat beside Hannah inside.
The vehicle rolled forward slowly, leaving the scene behind.
Within the van, silence pressed heavily.
Hannah leaned against her seat, eyelids closed. Vincent stayed wordless for a few moments before turning his gaze to her resting face. He spoke sincerely."What I said earlier is true. You've always been my only woman. Always!"
Hannah's lashes flickered slightly, though her eyes remained shut. She angled her head faintly toward the window.
Vincent's look darkened but soon steadied itself again. He dropped it, thinking she might be exhausted.
The van halted at the gate of Sterling Heights.
Hannah pushed the door open and hurried toward her bouilding, not sparing a glance back.
Vincent stepped out as well, trailing at a careful distance behind her.
Hannah slowed for a moment, though she never turned, only quickened her steps. Vincent probably intended to escort her home safely.
Though irritated, Hannah lacked the strength to argue with him now.
They walked ahead in silence.
Hannah stepped into the elevator, and Vincent naturally entered with her.
As the elevator ascended, an uncomfortable quiet filled the small space.
When they reached the twenty-second floor, Hannah exited swiftly, heading for her apartment door.
Vincent remained a single step behind, quietly observing.
Hannah finally faced him. Her tone was composed and distant, edged with deliberate dismissal. "I'm home now.You should return. Thanks for sending me back. Goodbye."
Vincent did not depart at once. He leaned in slightly and then asked, "What would you like to eat tomorrow?I'll bring it for you."
Hannah's brows drew together immediately. Again! The same condescending concern! Did he think this could make up for the past, as if nothing had happened?
She lifted her head, reminding him coolly. "Did you forget? I reported your car to property management.Your car isn't allowed in, so save yourself the trouble."
Vincent's mouth curved into a faint smile. His gaze held hers calmly. "I know. That's why I purchased a unit in this complex. My apartment sits just below yours."
Vincent paused briefly, his voice carrying subtle insistence. "So, the property management can't keep me out."
