Chapter 118

Ethan Sullivan's crimson eyes burned into the fleeing sedan ahead. Two million dollars—slipping right through his fingers.

He stomped his foot in frustration, itching to chase down Evelyn Laurent and drag her back.

Evelyn's knuckles whitened around the steering wheel. Two vans pursued relentlessly in her rearview mirror. She inhaled sharply, forcing calm into her veins.

She didn't know the men from the factory. Fighting them head-on would be suicide. Escape was her only option.

Whoever answered her call would come. Fast.

The speedometer needle climbed.

A black streak of lightning appeared in the opposite lane. The familiar Maybach roared toward her, its engine deafening.

"Ethan!"

Evelyn rolled down her window, screaming into the wind. Her voice shattered but carried.

Ethan's gaze sharpened, instantly assessing the situation. He spun the wheel without hesitation. "Jump!"

As the cars passed, Evelyn launched herself from the sedan. She stumbled toward the Maybach, collapsing into the passenger seat.

"Hospital." She gasped, her forehead glistening.

Ethan glanced at her pallid face and floored the accelerator. His men had already surrounded the vans in the rearview.

"Stay with me." His voice was steel.

Evelyn nodded weakly, her vision darkening. The adrenaline faded, and the drugs reclaimed her.

Inside the van, Ethan pounded the seat. "We lost the prize!"

The driver trembled, his grip shaky on the wheel. He stared at the Maybach's license plate and suddenly swerved.

"Turn around! Now!" He barked into the radio.

Ethan scowled. "Are you insane? We're walking away from the money?"

"To hell with the money!" The driver spat. "Do you know whose car that is? The Sullivans!"

"The... Sullivans?" Ethan stammered. "No way. That girl's just some country—"

"Shut up!" The driver slammed the gas, the van screeching into retreat. "You just got us all killed!"

Ethan slumped in his seat. His two-million-dollar fantasy evaporated. Worse—he realized with dawning horror that he'd crossed the wrong people.
