Chapter 32
Isabella Valentine stood at the café entrance, her fingers tightly gripping the strap of her purse.
She had dressed meticulously today, hoping for a chance encounter with Ethan Sullivan.
Instead, she was met with Professor Benjamin Klein first.
Her eyes lit up when she spotted the familiar figure emerging from the café.
"Professor Klein!"
She hurried forward with a ninety-degree bow, presenting her resume with both hands in reverence.
"I'm Isabella Valentine from the Valentine family. I've applied to the Physics Department this year and wish to become your protégé."
Professor Klein paused mid-step.
His brows furrowed slightly as he glanced at the resume.
"No more apprentices."
The blunt rejection made Isabella's face stiffen.
"But—"
As she prepared to showcase her awards, a familiar figure caught her peripheral vision.
Evelyn Laurent?!
Isabella's pupils contracted sharply.
Evelyn walked calmly behind Professor Klein, carrying several academic textbooks.
"Evelyn, let's go."
The professor's affectionate tone sent a tremor through Isabella's heart.
Evelyn responded indifferently without even sparing her a glance.
Two black sedans drove away in succession.
Isabella remained on the steps, her nails digging deep into her palms.
"How dare she..."
Her hands trembled as she pulled out her phone.
"Oliver, find out immediately if Evelyn Laurent is enrolling at Harvard University!"
A puzzled voice came through the line. "Her? That's impossible—"
"I saw her with Professor Klein myself!" Isabella's voice turned shrill. "Ethan must have pulled strings for her!"
Her gaze burned into the retreating taillights.
The rejected resume crumpled into a ball in her clenched fist.
