Chapter 291
A glint of amusement flickered in Richard Langley's eyes.
He maintained his aloof expression. "Let's eat."
His slender fingers encircled Victoria Langley's wrist as he guided her downstairs.
Evelyn Laurent rose from her seat just as Ethan Sullivan instinctively moved to her side.
Six pairs of burning eyes seemed to scorch his back.
The corner of Ethan's lips curved slightly.
With Evelyn present, the Langley brothers had no choice but to suppress their displeasure.
At the very least, this breakfast was his to enjoy.
The clinking of silverware filled the dining room.
Evelyn methodically sliced her bacon, catching the dark expressions of the Langley brothers from the corner of her eye.
Alexander Langley abruptly set down his napkin.
"Mr. Sullivan must have pressing matters at the office. Perhaps you should leave early?"
The dismissal couldn't have been more blunt.
Evelyn rose gracefully, the sharp crease of his suit pants unyielding.
"You're right. I should go." He turned to Evelyn. "I'll be staying at the company for a while."
Evelyn frowned. "Why?"
"The old man's orders." A wry smile touched his lips. "I'm forbidden from setting foot in the Sullivan mansion until I've earned your forgiveness."
Theodore Langley scoffed. "Then it seems you'll be sleeping on the streets, Mr. Sullivan."
Evelyn merely shrugged.
His retreating figure carried a hint of solitude.
Evelyn stared at the space he'd occupied, lost in thought.
Had Uncle Sullivan really banished his own son?
No wonder Ethan had only signed the agreement without breaking off the engagement...
"Evelyn!"
Six voices chimed in unison.
Sebastian Langley gripped her shoulders. "Stop thinking about that bastard!"
"Have you forgotten he's in love with someone else?"
Dizzy from the shaking, Evelyn's mind flashed to the desolation in Ethan's eyes moments ago.
Something in her chest gave a faint, inexplicable tug.
