Chapter 88

Ethan Sullivan was organizing lecture notes when the office door swung open.

He looked up to see Evelyn Laurent leaning against the doorframe. His brow furrowed. "What is it?"

This marked her first time seeking him out voluntarily.

A mocking smile played on Evelyn's lips. "Seems I interrupted Professor Sullivan's private moment."

"That was her one-sided pursuit." Ethan set down his fountain pen, voice dropping lower. "Sophia Lowell means nothing to me."

"Not my concern." Evelyn twirled her phone carelessly. "Mother wants you for dinner tonight."

She turned to leave without waiting for a response.

"Wait."

Ethan blocked her path with sharp movements. His gaze turned piercing. "That woman isn't worth a second glance."

"Fascinating." Evelyn didn't even blink.

He pulled her inside and shut the door. "Why come to my office directly?"

"No phone number." Her tone remained flat.

Ethan's expression darkened instantly.

After all this time, she hadn't even saved his contact?

"Give me your phone." His voice turned icy.

Evelyn took a half-step back. "Why?"

"To program my number." He enunciated each word. "Now."

She scoffed. "Unnecessary. I prefer no connections with Sophia's playthings."

Disgust flickered in her eyes at the mention of that family.

Ethan's pupils dilated. "I told you there's nothing between us!"

"Wasn't she your handpicked class representative?" Evelyn arched an eyebrow.

A vein pulsed at Ethan's temple. "The system assigned her randomly!"

"You seemed to enjoy it." Her laugh held no warmth.

During their standoff, Ethan suddenly dialed a number.

Evelyn's phone rang immediately.

"Yes?" She answered without checking.

"Ethan. Sullivan." The words came through gritted teeth.

"Noted." She ended the call and strode away.

Ethan inhaled sharply before grabbing his jacket.

At the campus gates, he clicked his key fob. "Get in."

Evelyn didn't turn. "No need. My driver's here."

A black Maybach glided to the curb. The door opened soundlessly. She slipped inside, leaving Ethan with nothing but the sight of her indifferent back.
