Chapter 326
Julian Langley shot Ethan Sullivan a murderous glare, about to lash out when Evelyn Laurent's clear voice cut through. "Let me demonstrate."
She motioned for them to step back, gripping the wooden spear firmly as she waded into the shallows.
Gentle waves lapped at her ankles.
As a school of fish darted past, her wrist flicked with lightning speed. The spear plunged into the water.
Two plump fish writhed on the spear's tip, their tails flapping desperately.
"See how it's done?" She lifted the spear, sunlight refracting through the droplets clinging to it.
Ethan watched the sea breeze tousle her hair, a faint smile curving his lips. "Mm."
Xander Quincy eagerly grabbed the spear and charged into the water.
Julian lounged on the sand, smirking. "Good luck with that."
He knew exactly how difficult spearfishing could be.
Evelyn shook her head and turned to gather firewood.
Her combat knife flashed as she swiftly assembled a makeshift grill.
"Going to cook the fish?" Julian sidled up.
"Yes. Everyone's hungry." Her hands moved deftly scaling the fish.
Julian frowned. "No fire starter."
"I've got it covered." She didn't look up.
"Beatrice's team has a lighter," Julian suggested.
Evelyn's hands stilled. "Send Xander to borrow it."
She didn't want her brother getting involved with Beatrice Quincy.
Julian's eyes lit up. He called toward the water, "Xander! Evelyn needs you to get a lighter!"
The struggling spearfisherman turned with a scowl. "Why don't you go yourself?"
