Chapter 141

Beatrice Quincy's smile froze on her face.

She hadn't expected Evelyn Laurent to confront her so abruptly.

"Julian can't handle alcohol." Evelyn's voice cut like an ice blade. "Yet you deliberately toasted him."

Her almond-shaped eyes brimmed with frost.

Beatrice's fingertips trembled slightly.

Of course she knew Julian Langley's drinking limits. Victoria Langley had mentioned the Oscar-winning actor got drunk after one glass and turned unruly.

That's precisely why she'd chosen this tactic.

"Evelyn, you misunderstand." Beatrice quickly adopted a wounded expression, her voice dripping with honeyed sweetness. "I was only punishing myself..."

Tears welled in her eyes.

Evelyn responded with a cold laugh.

The private room's atmosphere turned glacial.

The four Langley brothers maintained a silence. A flicker of approval crossed Julian's eyes - his little sister had grown up, now protecting her older brothers.

Ethan Sullivan's gaze burned into Evelyn.

Jealousy gnawed at him.

Why wasn't he the one being defended?

Xander Quincy frowned at the unfolding drama. For the first time, his sister's behavior struck him as excessive.

"I'm sorry..." Beatrice finally let her tears fall. "I shouldn't have been such an eyesore here."

She turned and fled.

Her stilettos left chaotic imprints on the plush carpet.

Evelyn leaned back into the sofa, taking a sip of red wine. Julian immediately nuzzled against her shoulder like an overgrown puppy.

"My Evelyn's the best!"

Her three other brothers watched longingly, their faces screaming "me too."

Ethan's grip tightened around his glass.

The crystal reflected his brooding profile.

In the restroom mirror, Beatrice viciously wiped away her tears. Her carefully drawn eyeliner had smudged into grotesque streaks resembling lacerations.

She pulled out her phone and dialed a number.

"Change of plans." Her voice turned terrifyingly cold. "I want Evelyn Laurent ruined beyond redemption."
