Chapter 68

The blue glow of the phone screen illuminated Sophia's twisted expression.

Her fingers clenched the bedsheet so tightly her nails nearly tore through the fabric.

"Evelyn Laurent..." She gritted her teeth as she spat out the name.

The hushed whispers of her roommates pierced her ears like needles.

"Did you hear Evelyn got special admission to Harvard?"

"Perfect scores? That's insane!"

"Didn't Sophia say she was some country bumpkin?"

Sophia abruptly turned over and buried her face in her pillow.

Her chest felt like it was weighed down by a boulder, making it hard to breathe.

The forum announcement had been a slap to the face.

All her carefully crafted rumors had been shattered in an instant.

"No..." She bit her lip, a ruthless glint flashing in her eyes.

She had to find a way to turn this around.

At the very least, she needed to cover her own tracks.

By the floor-to-ceiling windows of The Grand Hyatt, Evelyn set her phone down.

Moonlight spilled over her cold, delicate profile.

"Had enough of staring?" she suddenly asked.

Ethan lounged on the sofa, his gaze dark and unreadable.

"You have claustrophobia." It wasn't a question.

Evelyn's fingertips trembled faintly.

She turned to face him, her eyes sharp as blades.

"Investigating me?"

Ethan rose and stepped closer.

"Why were you sent to a psychiatric hospital?"

The air froze instantly.

Evelyn's pupils constricted.

"Get out." Her voice was ice.
