Chapter 382
[That strength is unreal!]
Rachel Clemenson heard the commotion and rushed over just in time to see it.
Her eyes widened, lips trembling.
"That’s impossible..."
Evelyn walked past her, dragging the lumber without breaking stride.
Rachel’s gaze locked onto the perfectly clean cuts.
Her face drained of color.
Sunlight dappled through the leaves onto the center of the camp.
All eyes froze when Evelyn Laurent returned dragging four thick tree trunks.
Rachel Clemenson's nails dug deep into her palms.
She stared at the trees, lips twisting into a sneer. "The production crew must be working overtime."
Leo Clemenson immediately caught her drift. "Sis, connections are everything these days. Regular folks like us should know our place."
Crystal Rothschild frowned. "Stop spreading rumors. The cameras are rolling."
"So what?" Rachel raised her voice. "With today's editing technology, who knows what'll end up on screen?"
She deliberately glanced toward the cameras, already imagining the trending hashtags.
Hugo Rothschild's gaze turned glacial.
"Brains are useful things." His thin lips barely moved. "Pity you lack them."
Rachel's face stiffened. "Hugo—"
"Don't call me that." His voice cut like ice. "It disgusts me."
Leo jumped up. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"Exactly what I said." Hugo's smile was arctic. "The air turns foul around you."
He turned to pull Crystal away. "We're switching teams."
"You can't!" Rachel shrieked. "The director won't allow it!"
Hugo didn't look back. "Then we quit."
His quiet words silenced the entire camp.
Rachel's face drained of color.
She never expected Hugo to go this far.
Evelyn seemed to notice the commotion and glanced their way.
Rachel immediately straightened, projecting her voice. "Don't get cocky! The audience sees everything!"
Hugo paused mid-step.
He turned, eyes colder than glacial ice. "One more word against her..."
The unspoken threat hung heavy in the air.
Rachel involuntarily stepped back.
Only when Hugo was out of earshot did she regain her composure, trembling with rage.
"Sis..." Leo began hesitantly.
"Shut up!" Rachel hissed through clenched teeth. "Let's see how long she can keep up this act!"
Her venomous gaze locked onto Evelyn's retreating figure, eyes burning with malice.
