Chapter 151
The classroom was eerily empty, making Evelyn Laurent's vacant seat stand out conspicuously.
Gossip erupted like boiling oil in a pan.
"Walter, are you sure Evelyn was the last one to leave?"
"She always acted so aloof. Who knew she'd stoop to this?"
"Pfft. She's got a history of violence. What's petty theft to someone like her?"
Two factions squared off. Evelyn's supporters clenched their fists while Sophia Lowell's roommates sneered with superiority.
Sophia's eyes were red-rimmed as she frantically emptied her backpack.
"That bracelet was a birthday gift from my brother..." Her voice trembled on the verge of tears.
Her roommates immediately closed ranks around her.
"Don't worry, we'll find it!"
"Search her desk! It's gotta be there!"
Several girls shoved past protesting classmates toward Evelyn's seat. Books scattered across the floor as they yanked out the entire drawer.
"Found it!" One girl triumphantly held up a glinting silver chain.
The room fell silent.
Sophia accepted the bracelet with shaking fingers. "It's mine... But how—"
"What do you mean 'how'?" A roommate scoffed. "The thief's right in front of us!"
"This could be a setup!" someone countered.
"With irrefutable evidence? Stop making excuses!"
The argument nearly blew the roof off.
Evelyn walked in to this exact scene.
"What's going on?" Her quiet voice instantly silenced the room.
Sophia's roommate leapt forward. "Evelyn Laurent! How dare you show your face after stealing Sophia's bracelet?"
"Caught red-handed!"
Evelyn's gaze swept over the ransacked desk before settling on the silver chain in Sophia's hand.
The corner of her mouth curled into a cold smirk.
