Chapter 155

Sophia Lowell's voice suddenly rose to a deliberately shrill pitch.

She practically begged to be overheard.

Her venomous glare pinned Lydia Montgomery in place. Lydia shuddered under the weight of that look and immediately understood.

"I just couldn't stand Evelyn Laurent!" Lydia spat through gritted teeth. "And Sophia's constant bragging!"

"So I stole the bracelet to frame her!"

"I admit it, okay?"

Evelyn leaned against the desk, a faint smirk playing on her lips.

Sophia moved forward with fake concern, only to be shoved away. Lydia stumbled back like a startled rabbit before fleeing.

"Evelyn..." Sophia's eyes reddened, her voice trembling. "This is all my fault..."

Evelyn didn't even glance at her before turning away.

Sunlight glinted off the pink diamonds on her wrist, casting sharp reflections.

Sophia lowered her head, nails digging deep into her palms.

Strangely, she didn't explode in rage as she usually would.

This numb sense of defeat was somehow even more sickening.

Harvard University's Centennial Gala.

Sophia narrowed her eyes.

If she couldn't touch Evelyn right now, she'd at least prove her worth to Sebastian Royston.

She would stun everyone at the gala.

As for Evelyn...

A cold smile curled Sophia's lips.

Just a bookworm.

"Evelyn!" Lillian Rothschild jogged to catch up. "Let's team up for the gala performance!"

Her eyes sparkled. "You'd dazzle the whole audience just by standing there!"

Evelyn shook her head. "Not interested."

"Come on!" Lillian tugged at her sleeve. "We'll do classical dance. You can just be our beautiful centerpiece!"
