Chapter 247

The black Maybach glided to a stop before the shooting range entrance.

Evelyn Laurent practically burst from the car, sunlight dancing across her excited face. She linked arms with Victoria Langley while tugging Richard Langley along, skipping toward the entrance.

The six Langley brothers trailed behind like wilted eggplants, their shoulders slumped in defeat.

Ethan Sullivan brought up the rear, an enigmatic smile playing on his lips.

Lights flickered on with an audible snap.

The expansive facility glowed under the bright illumination. To the left lay the shooting range, to the right the archery section. Pristine equipment gleamed under the lights, the air carrying faint traces of leather and metal.

Evelyn's eyes sparkled with unrestrained delight. This was her favorite place to practice moving targets.

"Ethan's gift is my absolute favorite," she announced to her brothers, her voice chiming like wind chimes.

Theodore Langley's expression darkened. He had to admit - Ethan's move was masterful.

The brothers exchanged glances, each mentally kicking themselves for not thinking of this idea first.

Ethan watched Evelyn with tender eyes. Her words made his heart feel dipped in honey.

Victoria and Richard shared a knowing smile. This son-in-law had their full approval.

"Why didn't you tell us you wanted a shooting range?" Theodore grumbled. "We'd have built you a bigger one."

Alexander added calmly, "We could construct one at the estate."

Evelyn shook her head with a laugh. "This one's perfect." She patted her stomach. "Too full from lunch. Shall we work it off?"

The Langley clan sprang into action.

Evelyn's eyes crinkled into crescents as she challenged Ethan to an archery match.

"I'm in too!" Julian called out.

The other brothers quickly joined the competition.

Victoria picked up a pistol and cocked an eyebrow at Richard. "Care for a match, darling?"

Richard smiled indulgently. "You're on."

The couple headed to the shooting range.

At the archery section, Evelyn and Ethan simultaneously drew the heaviest compound bows.

Whoosh!

Two arrows sliced through the air.

Ethan's struck dead center. Evelyn's landed two rings off.

She pouted and nocked another arrow.

The six brothers lined up and released their arrows in unison.

Five found their mark in the bullseye.

One... embedded itself in the wall.
