Chapter 373
Evelyn Laurent and her three companions sat around the bonfire by the rocky shore.
The flames crackled as rabbit meat sizzled on skewers. The aroma of grilled seafood filled the air.
The other two groups watched hungrily, clutching their dry hardtack and sour wild berries.
Beatrice Quincy swallowed hard. "Where did you get rabbits?"
Rachel Clemenson stepped closer, her stomach growling. "Yeah, Evelyn. There are rabbits on this island?"
Without looking up, Evelyn pointed casually. "Over there."
Following her gesture, Rachel spotted three live rabbits tied beneath a tree near their camp.
"Evelyn!" Rachel's eyes lit up. "Can we trade for one?"
She crouched to untie the ropes without waiting for an answer. "We can exchange supplies. Name your price."
Crystal Rothschild stood nearby, her gaze fixed on the roasting meat. She tugged Hugo Rothschild's sleeve. "Let's go catch rabbits too."
The sea breeze carried the tantalizing scent of food as Rachel's fingers brushed the knot.
Evelyn suddenly lifted her gaze, eyes sharp as daggers. "Who said you could touch that?"
Rachel froze mid-motion, her smile stiffening.
"Hungry?" Evelyn turned the skewers with deliberate slowness. "Go hunt your own."
The firelight flickered across her face as a cold smirk curved her lips.
