Chapter 376

Silence finally returned after the two groups walked away.

Evelyn Laurent focused on turning the rabbit meat over the fire, brushing it with a secret sauce. The rich aroma filled the air.

Julian Langley stared hungrily at the roasting rabbit, his Adam's apple bobbing.

"Patience," Evelyn chuckled, deftly tearing off a leg.

She handed the first foreleg to Julian, the second to Ethan Sullivan. She and Bianca Fairchild each took a hind leg.

The four dug in eagerly.

The rabbit was crispy outside and tender inside, its juices bursting between their teeth. Julian devoured his entire foreleg in just a few bites.

Evelyn used her combat knife to divide the remaining meat.

Soon, the rabbit was completely gone, but they still craved more. After finishing some grilled fish and shrimp, they leaned back against the tree, satisfied.

The shade enveloped Evelyn like an umbrella.

She stretched out, finding a comfortable position to lie down. Bianca settled beside her while Julian took the other side.

Ethan, sitting beyond Julian, gazed at Evelyn with a heavy expression.

If not for the change in groupings, he would have been the one by her side.

"I'm going to nap," Evelyn yawned, her eyelids drooping.

The morning's exertion had drained her, and drowsiness now took over.

Ethan frowned. "Not going back to the tent?"

"Too stuffy," she waved him off.

The midday island sun was scorching, turning the tent into a sauna. Evelyn hated the heat, preferring the cool shade beneath the tree.

Silently, Ethan removed his jacket and spread it beneath her. "Don't catch a chill."

She didn't refuse, resting her head on his tailored suit as she drifted off. Julian, too, succumbed to sleep.

Bianca exchanged a knowing glance with Ethan.

"I'll sleep in the tent," she whispered. "My wound shouldn't be exposed to the wind."

With that, she left.

Ethan carefully moved closer to Evelyn.

He studied her sleeping face. Compared to when they first met, her cheeks had filled out, no longer gaunt from malnutrition.

Now, her skin glowed with health under the dappled sunlight.

A tender smile touched Ethan's eyes.

Sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting golden flecks on her lashes. Unable to resist, he reached out and gently brushed away a stray lock of hair from her forehead.
