Chapter 388
Moonlight spilled like liquid silver over the tranquil island.
The four groups of guests settled in for their first night in the wilderness.
Beatrice Quincy tossed and turned inside her flimsy tent.
Something kept crawling over her sleeping bag.
"Damn this show!" She gritted her teeth and rolled onto her side. The hard ground dug into her bones.
The thin grass mat did nothing to cushion the unyielding earth.
Regret gnawed at her for signing up.
With her phone confiscated, she had no distractions to pass the time.
"Should've told my agent to reject this gig..." She muttered before resigning herself to sleep.
Meanwhile, Evelyn Laurent's group slept soundly.
Julian Langley sighed contentedly on his plush grass bedding.
"Evie, you're a genius." He marveled. "This beats sleeping on rocks any day."
Evelyn chuckled softly. "Get some rest, Julian. Dawn comes early."
Ethan Sullivan leaned against the tent entrance, watching the siblings with quiet amusement.
He thanked his stars Evelyn had accompanied Julian.
If Theodore Langley—the kitchen disaster—had come instead, they'd still be struggling to start a fire.
Not to mention that luxury yacht incident...
A smirk tugged at Ethan's lips.
Night deepened.
Salty sea breezes whispered through the camp.
All four sites had fallen silent.
Then—
"Help! Someone help!"
A bloodcurdling scream shattered the night.
Julian bolted upright, pale as chalk. "Snake? Where?"
Ethan already had the tent flap open. "Rachel and Leo's site."
Moonlight revealed Rachel Clemenson stumbling out in tears.
"A snake—inside our tent!" Her voice trembled.
Leo Clemenson hopped around like a madman. "Production! Get over here!"
Chaos erupted.
Other guests scrambled to inspect their own tents.
Beatrice fled the campsite entirely, frozen in terror on open ground.
Crew members arrived in a flurry of flashlight beams.
"What happened?" The director demanded.
Rachel pointed a shaking finger. "In there...a black snake..."
Staff approached cautiously.
A dark shape darted out.
Gasps erupted.
The flashlight beam chased the fleeing creature—
A terrified iguana.
The director exhaled. "Just a local lizard. Harmless."
Rachel collapsed sobbing.
No one would sleep tonight.
