Chapter 392
"My lady, I have failed you. Our outpost in the town has fallen." Yang Zuo dropped to one knee, his voice thick with suppressed fury.
The slender figure in the cave turned slowly. The violet miniskirt shimmered faintly in the dim light, revealing glimpses of pale legs. The girl's raven hair cascaded like silk, gleaming under the torchlight.
Evelyn's delicate fingers tapped lightly against the stone wall, producing crisp echoes.
"Uncle Yang, we've retreated as far as we can go." Her voice was cool, but defiance burned in her eyes.
Yang Zuo looked up at the girl's exquisite profile flickering in the firelight. The young mistress of the Sun and Moon Sect was now their last hope.
"My scouts report that the Lowell sisters and Ethan are merely passing through," Yang Zuo said grimly. "They travel without an army."
Evelyn whirled around, her skirt slicing through the air.
"Are you certain?"
"Beyond doubt." A ruthless glint flashed in Yang Zuo's eyes. "If not for Felix's interference, we would have eliminated them already."
"Felix?" Evelyn's pupils contracted. "From the Imperial City?"
Silence fell in the cave, broken only by the crackling of torches.
"My lady, retreat is no longer an option." Yang Zuo's voice turned hoarse. "We must strike first."
Evelyn walked to the cave entrance, gazing at the distant mountain ridges. The setting sun stretched her shadow long across the ground.
"How many remain with us?"
"Over ten thousand."
The girl suddenly laughed—a chilling, crystalline sound.
"You're right, Uncle Yang." When she turned, her eyes held only resolve. "If they seek our annihilation, let's see who falls first."
Yang Zuo knelt again. "I have a plan."
Evelyn arched a brow. "Speak."
"Lure them deep into Kunlun Base. Let them walk into our trap." Yang Zuo's eyes gleamed with cunning.
Evelyn ran her fingers along the coiled whip at her waist, her lips curving into a cold smile.
"Make it so." Her gentle tone sent a sudden chill through the cave. "Tonight, none of our pursuers shall leave alive."
Yang Zuo clasped his fists solemnly. "I'll arrange it at once."
Outside, dusk deepened. None could foresee the bloodbath brewing in the shadows.
