Chapter 441

Dawn broke as the warship sailed out of the danger zone.

Julian Langley woke in the cabin to find endless blue waves outside the porthole.

"We're preparing to dock," Liu Changjin stood on the deck, the sea breeze lifting the hem of his coat. "Captain Sullivan will be sent for medical examination first."

Julian rubbed his temples. Before he could speak, the opposite cabin door swung open.

Evelyn Laurent emerged in full military uniform, her epaulets glinting in the morning light.

"Sis!" Julian rushed forward, fingers tightening around her sleeve. "Are you hurt?"

"Just scratches." She flexed her wrist, but her gaze drifted past him to the closed operating room. "Where's Ethan Sullivan?"

Liu Changjin studied Evelyn for a long moment.

The girl stood straight as a pine, her composure belying her youth. What a pity... he sighed inwardly. How could the Laurent family send their treasured daughter into the military?

"Why are you staring at me?" Evelyn arched a brow.

"Upon returning to the capital, military command will contact you," Liu said solemnly. "The captain's condition is stable, but we must proceed with the mission."

Before he finished speaking, Hugo Rothschild stepped out from the neighboring cabin, his arm in a sling, and saluted Liu with perfect form.

"Prepare for handover," Liu checked his watch.

At that moment, the operating room doors opened. Ethan Sullivan lay on the gurney, tubes snaking from his body, his face pale as paper.

Evelyn's nails dug into her palms.

Amid the wail of ambulance sirens, they arrived at Central Hospital. The moment they stepped out, Beatrice Quincy's cheerful voice rang out.

"Professor Laurent!"

The girl fluttered over like a butterfly, morning dew still clinging to her hair.
