Chapter 49

"Evelyn Laurent!"

Isabella Valentine trembled with rage, her nails digging deep into her palms.

Evelyn's careless words sliced through Isabella's carefully maintained pride like razor blades.

How infuriating!

This was nothing but blatant bragging!

"Just you wait. One day I'll rip off that mask of yours!"

Isabella clenched her fists, eyes burning with fury.

Evelyn didn't even glance at her. "You're not worthy," she said coldly before walking away, her posture straight as a pine.

Isabella stood rooted, staring at Evelyn's retreating figure, her lips pressed into a bloodless line.

Evelyn knew exactly how to hit her where it hurt.

Every word was a poisoned needle stabbing her heart.

That "not worthy" comment made her blood boil.

Taking a deep breath, Isabella hurried after her.

Sophia Lowell witnessed the entire scene.

Her eyes lit up, a calculating smile curling her lips.

She'd been searching for an opportunity to get close to Isabella. Now Evelyn had handed it to her on a silver platter.

In the physics classroom, Sophia scanned the room. Confirming Evelyn's absence, she sidled up to Isabella.

"Mind if I sit here?"

Sophia flashed a saccharine smile, her voice dripping with sweetness.

Isabella, still seething, shot her a frosty look and stayed silent.

"You and Evelyn seem to have some... misunderstanding?"

Sophia lowered her voice, feigning concern.

"None of your business."

Isabella's sharp retort made heads turn.

Sophia's smile faltered but quickly recovered.

"My apologies. Evelyn grew up in the countryside. She's always been... uncivilized."

She paused before adding, "She skips classes constantly and has terrible grades. If she offended you, please don't take it personally."

Her words were carefully crafted—appearing gracious while subtly disparaging Evelyn.

Isabella frowned. "You know Evelyn?"

"Of course."

Sophia sighed dramatically. "Her parents are country bumpkins. Her brothers are uneducated too. That's why she's so rebellious."

Isabella stared at her like she was an idiot.

This girl must be delusional.

Evelyn's family were country folk?

What a joke!

The Laurents were one of the most powerful families in the city.

Clearly Sophia had no clue about Evelyn's true background.

Otherwise she'd never dare speak like this.

"Please don't hold it against her. We're all classmates after all."

Sophia continued playing the saint.

"Why are you defending Evelyn?"

"Yeah, why should we tolerate that wild brat?"

"Someone like her should be expelled!"

"It's embarrassing sharing a class with her."

The surrounding students eagerly chimed in.

Sophia hid her glee behind a mask of concern.

"Don't say that. She's just... brutally honest."
