Chapter 6
The bodyguards efficiently hauled up the groaning thugs from the ground.
The interrogation was swift. These were mere hired hands with no knowledge of who hired them.
A cold glint flashed in Ethan Sullivan's eyes. He hadn't expected useful leads from such small fry.
Once the questioning ended, he had them delivered straight to the police station.
Evelyn Laurent stood by, watching coldly. She casually yanked the trapped driver out of the wrecked car.
After the farce concluded, they switched to another vehicle.
Evelyn eyed Ethan warily, her voice icy. "Who are you really?"
According to Vincent Lowell, her parents came from a remote village called Yongning.
How could such a backwater produce a man with this commanding presence?
Luxury cars. Bodyguards. Even Vincent couldn't match this level of extravagance.
If the police hadn't verified his identity, she'd never have gone with him.
"Ethan Sullivan. Current head of the Sullivan family in Capital City." His tone was casual, as if stating the weather.
Evelyn's pupils contracted sharply. Even living in White Rock Village, she'd heard of the Sullivans.
The conglomerate's helmsman. The nation's wealthiest man. A business legend.
"Bullshit." She suddenly laughed derisively. "You're Ethan Sullivan? Then I'm the heiress of the Langley family!"
Ethan nodded indifferently. "Correct."
With a cold snort, Evelyn turned away, refusing to engage with this smooth-talking liar.
Outwardly refined as jade, but who knew what schemes lurked beneath?
Ethan reclined lazily in his seat, a frosty gleam surfacing in his eyes.
He'd told her the truth. Believing it was her choice.
Meanwhile, at Central Hospital in Seacliff City...
Margaret Hill awoke from unconsciousness, her swollen face still etched with terror.
Only after confirming Evelyn's absence did she relax.
"Mom!" Sophia Lowell threw herself at the bedside, eyes red. "Brandon's being held at the police station. Dad went to get him—"
"What?!" Margaret nearly fainted again. "That little bitch actually dared—"
Her precious son was the Lowell family's future heir!
Not only had Evelyn laid hands on him, she'd called the police?
The hospital door suddenly swung open.
Vincent entered with Brandon, both wearing thunderous expressions and prominent injuries.
"Where's Evelyn?" Margaret hissed through clenched teeth.
"Her family took her," Vincent said grimly.
Brandon's face twisted. "Dad, we have to make that bitch pay!"
Vincent waved a hand. "Forget her for now. The Langleys in Capital City found their missing seventh daughter. They're throwing a homecoming banquet."
His eyes gleamed with ambition. "This is our chance to climb into the Langleys' good graces."
Margaret's eyes lit up. The Lowell fortunes had declined recently. A connection with the Capital City Langleys...
"I hear they're making a huge deal about this seventh daughter," Vincent murmured. "If we can win her favor..."
Greed flashed across the family's faces, temporarily pushing Evelyn from their minds.
Sophia suddenly spoke up. "Mom, Dad—I got accepted as an exchange student at Harvard."
"Really?" Vincent's voice rose excitedly. Harvard was the nation's top university!
Margaret hugged her daughter proudly. "That's my girl! That bastard Evelyn isn't fit to lick your boots!"
